With over 25 years of experience, combined with a working marine and aviation background, Jim Barrett brings a mountain of production, post production and problem solving knowledge to the table. One of the benefits of growing up in a family owned marina was learning all aspects of the day-to-day operations. From a young age, Jim was running the business, while pursuing a love and passion for aviation and photography. His aviation and marine clients see the benefit of hiring a professional that doesn't just art direct. Jim's working knowledge of wind, water, currents, weather, and as someone who has the ratings, enables him to ask the right questions, and direct the talent or product into the best angle, in the best light, and ultimately capture images that evoke emotions. This drives future sales and the ultimate success of each and every client. 

Jim holds a Private Pilot Certificate for Single Engine land, IFR, sea and glider aircraft with both High Performance and Tail Wheel endorsements. Jim also earned his OUPV from the US Coast Guard, with backgrounds of running vessels to 80+ feet in length, both power and sail.  Applications for the newly regulated UAV standards, Jim has applied for the  FAA 333 Waiver for Commercial use in 2016, with multiple aircraft and experience with UAVs. 

PRE-PRODUCTION

The beginning is just as important as the ending, miss one thing up front, the dominoes will fall.  With over 26 years of production under my belt, I've organized and produced shoots as little as one man, one product, to 14 man crew, 300 plus boats over a 9 week span, with castings and talent hunts in the thousands.  The details, from craft services, talent scouting, location scouting, coordinating the right crew, the right shot at the right time, in the right place.  

PHOTOGRAPHY

I Picked up a camera when II was in my single digits, and always had a passion and eye for composing shots.  My parents marina was my playground.  My eye for detail was stemmed from my parents, mother an artist of many mediums, father a "shade tree engineer".  My schooling comprised of years of creative art, mechanical and architectural drafting.  I actually see images mechanically, meaning, when I am shooting, composition is naturally sub-concise, while the working of the camera, depth of field, motion blur techniques I see in a mechanical form, like the inside of a clock.

With a background in 16mm film, I transitioned to digital medium before many of my peers, though the initial quality was nowhere near film, the knowledge base that was formed advanced my digital footprint.  The technology finally caught up to film and is now the new norm.  It's one thing to shoot video, it's another to have the knowledge and the tools to elevate production value, while keeping costs low.  With an arsenal of camera supports, from gyro stabilization, three-axis gimbal mount, car mounts, jib arm, sliders, as well as drone capabilities.
